Ready to level up your dashboards?
Smoothly deploying a visually appealing MR dashboard can be challenging, and there are many factors you need to consider; Who is going to be viewing this dashboard, What visualizations should be used to best communicate your insights, Which platform to use and more…
All these need to be considered thoroughly, so the entire process from design, through the build and deployment can go smoothly. Here are a few tips to consider when working on a MR dashboard.
Have a clear idea of your audience and what you want to show them before you start: When creating a dashboard, one size does not fit all, so you need to understand your audience and build to their preferences/understanding. By recognising the challenges your audience is facing, you’ll be able to create a dashboard allowing them to solve these issues. By understanding your audience, the dashboard that you produce will be tailor-made, and the visualizations you choose will be meaningful to your audience.
Less is more: A dashboard needs to be easy on the eye, and intuitive – where stakeholders can immediately login and quickly digest the data, using filters to delve into the numbers and glean insight. Charts and data are the focus, so ensure that the story is being portrayed efficiently without overpopulating the dashboard with unnecessary visualizations.
Ease of use: When designing and deploying an interactive dashboard, the user interface needs to be simple and effective so the users can get the most out of the dashboard. No one wants a clunky dashboard with too many unnecessary filters and charts.
You are also responsible for giving the users the controls they need to navigate through the visualisations as well as to filter the data. This user interface and experience needs to be smooth so your users can get the most out of the dashboard. It also needs to be discreet so as not to take any focus away from the data you are displaying.
Which platform should I use: This is arguably one of the most important steps to consider when it comes to building and deploying your market research dashboard! You need to be aware that many platforms on the market are in fact designed for BI data, and they won’t necessarily understand the nuances of market research data and language. Before committing to a platform, ensure it can deliver and handle what you throw at it; whether multi-response data, stat testing, dynamic calculation of nets, applying weighting, suppressing low bases, etc. If it will need significant shoe horning just to read in your data, you’re barking up the wrong tree!
